One-time financial analyst Chuck Bascon left Manhattan after 9/11, and was lured by romance to Toronto. Before moving to Toronto Chuck left his career of 11 years to take pastry courses at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) in New York City. In New York, cupcake shops like Magnolia (from Sex and the City fame) were popping up in every neighbourhood. With Chuck’s passion, skills and the New Yorker ”go-getter” attitude he opened Mississauga’s “First and Only Cupcake Shop” in Streetsville. Swirls’ goal is to offer GTA’s best version of these gourmet and little cakes that are nut-free and delicious. After a successful 4 years Swirls opened their second location in Etobicoke, ON in September 2009.
Swirls is proud to be family owned and in 2010 Jonathan, Chuck’s brother-in-law joined the family business. Swirls has further expanded their family with a wonderful team of over 15 cupcake and cake designers and bakers working together to provide excellent products and customer service.
Swirls has an intimate understanding of what people with nut allergies go through and therefore, take pride in knowing that we offer nut-free goods to our customers. As parents of two beautiful “Cupcake Girls” we know how important it is to be able to have treats that are safe to eat with your child.
With a great team Swirls continues to grow, comes up with new ideas of cakes, cupcakes, gelato and other desserts, and looks forward to the future.
